Craftsman Tiles is an art tile studio that specializes in Arts & Crafts inspired designs. The artist, Janet Starr, has been handcrafting tile in Santa Cruz, CA since 1987. Originally a painter, she uses her exprerience to create original designs that captures the feel of the Craftsman era. These framed tiles will compliment any Arts & Crafts, Mission or Bunglalow style home.

Each original design is hand-carved into plaster. Using a technique called ‘Cuenca’, clay is hand-pressed into the plaster mold, creating a raised outline. Each tile is then hand-glazed with glaze formulas developed by the artist in muted and rich color tones. These tiles are made of stoneware clay and are fired at mid-range temperature. The 2 ½” Mission style frames are custom built of quartersawn oak by a fine woodworker.
